Malaysia made a winning start to their Men’s World Team Squash Championship campaign in Washington DC on Sunday with a 3-0 sweep of South Korea.
National champion Ivan Yuen put Malaysia ahead in the Pool C tie by beating Woo Chang-wook 11-3, 11-2, 11-7 before Ng Eain Yow claimed an unassailable lead with an 11-9, 11-2, 11-5 win over Ko Young-jo.
Syafiq Kamal wrapped up the tie for 10th seeds Malaysia by overcoming Hwang Joong-won 11-9, 11-7, 11-6 to set up a showdown with third seeds France on Monday.
France, featuring returning former world champion Gregory Gaultier after a 14-month injury absence, eased to a 3-0 win over Colombia.
The two teams last met in the 2013 quarter-finals with France winning 3-0 on home soil. Malaysia also lost to France in the quarter-finals of the 2007 and 2011 editions.
