Immigration will face defending champions Army in the Kuala Lumpur FA Super League playoff semi-finals after finishing top of the preliminary league stage.
Army, who go by Tentera Darat in Malay, just squeezed into the playoffs in fourth on goal difference from Kilat, who needed to beat their last-four rivals in a crucial clash by three goals but only ended up 1-0 winners on Wednesday. That left Army in fourth and Kilat in fifth after both teams ended up on 18 points.
It was Army’s only defeat in nine matches as they prepare to face Immigration on Jan 17 at the Kilat ground in Bangsar and look to repeat their 4-1 win in the league stage.
Immigration finished top with seven wins and two defeats for 21 points, just a point more than Cheras Perdana and DRB-Hicom, who face off at Persada Plus on Jan 17 in the other semi-final.
“Finishing top of the league is our best achievement since joining the KLFA league and in any other season we would have been declared champions,” Immigration coach Khalid A. Rashid said on the Imigresen Football Club’s Facebook page.
“But under the rules, we have a semi-final to play and we will prepare the team as best as we can for the remaining games and make history in 2020 by playing in the Malaysian FA Cup.”
